Quantum computing for developers: Solving optimization problems with Qiskit
Isabell Heider & David Alber - 5 months ago
Quantum computers promise to advance the fields of simulation, optimization and machine learning. What does this mean for developers? We want to show how regular developers can get involved with quantum computing. With Qiskit we present an open-source Python framework that people with no previous quantum experience can use to get started with executing quantum programs. First, we will give an overview of the relevance and core functionalities of a quantum computer. Then we will dive into the Variational Quantum Eigensolver (VQE) routine. This algorithm is an example of how classical and quantum computers work together to solve the computationally exhaustive task of identifying Eigenvalues. The VQE algorithm is a promising candidate for solving a practical task faster than classical computers. Our implementation will use the latest advancements in the quantum computing software stack: The Qiskit Runtime Primitives. These offer a simple interface for defining quantum-classical workloads.
