Accessible software products and services are a basic human right, and crucial for digital banking products and services. Therefore, beginning on June 28, 2025 the European accessibility act demands that all consumer banking services implement the European standard for digital accessibility (EN 301 549) which most recently adopted the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1 AA). How do you develop your features to satisfy both user experience (UX) and accessibility requirements? We list the challenges we faced during the development of our banking application for iOS at ING Germany and we will show in detail one example which decisions have been made to keep our code maintainable and satisfy UX, user interface (UI) design, and accessibility requirements.
