For the last 26 years I've worked as a web developer. For the last 5 years at npm and Netlify I've been conducting annual surveys of tens of thousands of web developers to learn about what they're working on and how it has changed. The result is a long view of where the web has been, where it is, and a working of model of where it might go. Are there really "fundamental" web development skills and if so what are they? You should leave this talk with a picture of where you are as a web developer, and an idea of where upcoming technical advances mean you could take your career in the next 5 years. Web development is a big place, and this is an attempt to give you a map.
