Zoi has developed a digital passersby counter for the city center of Ludwigsburg, which measures the flow of visitors all year round. This enables targeted actions to increase the attractiveness of the city. With the introduction of this technology, Ludwigsburg is taking a step forward toward Smart City.

To transmit data, LoRaWAN technology is used because it can transfer data over long distances. This significantly reduces the installation effort, since only a few gateways are required in the city area. Retrofitting in existing urban areas is therefore also associated with minimal effort.

Every WLAN-enabled end device communicates continuously with an access point or searches for one within range. The passersby counter collects the anonymized MAC address of the device to determine the number of devices present. Only the aggregated number of MAC addresses is transmitted to and stored in the AWS Cloud infrastructure.

In order to make the information stored in the cloud infrastructure accessible, the data is visualized in a dashboard. Users can call up the dashboard directly via their web browser without complex installations or software updates. The standard view shows the number of recorded passers-by per day, week, and month. Additional views can be configured and added at any time.

In the @Kärcher Kira B 50, the software gateway implemented by our Embedded Engineering Manager @Stefan Bayha and the Zoi team bridge the gap between the autonomous cleaning robot and the @AWS backend. This way, service technicians can easily update and maintain the Kira.

Colleagues from around the world have joined our AI hackathon as part of this year's summer party.

In cross-disciplinary groups, they thought about how we can hack internal processes and current industrial challenges with and through AI.

The results were impressive. And instead of one prize, we awarded four prizes.

In order to adequately bridge the gap between interaction and realism while creating compelling, multi-dimensional and immersive experiences, interface design guidelines and rules will become necessary for interface design.

🛠 AI-based tools play an important role in these endeavours. @Artivive, @Squars and Atlas from Austria are successfully using AI to make XR experiences more vivid and memorable, produce compelling stories and create unrivalled experiences in the fields of art, branding and content creation.

This week, several of our team members had the opportunity to attend #KubeCon + CloudNativeCon hosted by @CNCF in Paris. The buzzwords? #AI/ML and #Security.

Here's a brief overview of their experiences, neatly packed into a container 📦.

Miguel Santos: "I particularly loved the keynote 'Accelerating AI Workloads with GPUs in Kubernetes' by @Kevin Klues from @NVIDIA and the follow-up talks because it gave some awesome insights on how to optimize our customers' workloads in a way I wasn't aware of."

José Valente: "The community is working hard to allow AI/ML and Webassembly workloads to run easily and efficiently. Also, @Bob Wise from @Heroku highlighted the importance of not only having K8s as Open Source but also having an Open Governance model plus the importance of collaboration."

Firas Tayeb: "The most interesting talks for me were how to use confidential containers for fortifying security in Kubernetes, the new features offered by @Cast to use AI in cluster optimization and cost management, and also how to build an open source AL/ML platform using Kubernetes."

Aleksandr Gayvoronskiy: "KubeCon is a great place to meet new people, talk to vendors, get up-to-date with the latest technologies, and, of course, a great place to learn – e.g. in the Rancher workshop."
